There are dozens and dozens of tips to help you drive the golf ball better, but here are 4 that are sure to help you out immediately.

Height Of Golf Ball On Tee

With todays massive clubhead sizes, you must have nearly have the golf ball showing above the top of the clubhead. Teeing it too low will encourage a descending not an ascending blow onto the golf ball resulting in a massive loss of distance. Take a look at the golf picture below, and you’ll notice that a good portion of the golf ball is above the top of the clubface of the driver.

Golf Driver Ball Position

Ball position is a BIGGY if you want to hit the golf ball as far as you can! Many high handicappers position the ball near the middle of their stance encouraging a descending not ascending (upward) blow on the ball. The proper golf ball position to maximize launch angle and distance is just inside your left or forward heel. That may seem way out there, but trust me…put it there, and what how far your next drive goes!

Take a look at Tiger’s ball position below. Notice how far forward it is?

Full Turn (Backswing) Behind Golf Ball

You must turn fully behind the golf ball to give yourself a chance to come back into impact while behind the ball, delivering a powerful blow into the back of the ball on the upswing. I see many amateurs make a short backswing, hanging on their left side, then sliding past the golf ball, causing a “swipe” golf swing that either slices, or goes weak to the right.

I hate to keep using Tiger Woods, but look at how far behind the golf ball he gets with his entire upper body.

Relax Your Muscles For Higher Clubhead Speed

Many of the long hitters on tour will tell you when they want to hit it far, they swing easier, to allow maximum speed. This is the opposite of most amateurs. They think effort equals results, and that’s just the case in golf. Tight muscles are SLOW muscles. Think of a world class sprinter. If they ran with tight muscles they would be much slower. They are very powerful, but yet effortless. You need to think the same the next time you step on the tee box to hit it LONG.
